Taco Cabana Review – Impressive Re-Introduction to the Fast, Fresh Mexican Restaurant

Impressive Re-Introduction to Taco Cabana – Review
Growing up in Dallas, we didn’t have a Taco Cabana near us. When I started college in Austin, Taco Cabana was new to me. I quickly learned about the San Antonio based Mexican restaurant. College kids knew Taco Cabana as a good, cheap place to get Mexican food and drinks 24 hours a day (some locations).
Taco Cabana Review – New Taco Cabana in Kyle, Texas
Fast forward a few years (um… maybe more). As an Austin blogger, I got an invite to the new Taco Cabana grand opening celebration in Kyle, Texas. It had been a while since my husband or I had eaten at Taco Cabana. We decided to check it out on our way down to the outlets in San Marcos. We thought we’d just stop by for a few minutes, sample a little bit of food, and head on our way.
My husband, two sons, and I arrived at the new Taco Cabana Kyle location at I35 and Kyle Parkway. We were warmly welcomed and invited to order from the menu, get a caricature, face painting, photo booth picture, or spin the prize wheel. Since it had been a while since we had been to Taco Cabana, we needed a little bit of time to browse the menu. The cashier was very helpful and patient with us. We ordered fajita tacos combos for each of us and a large order of sopapillas.
We grabbed an outdoor table and then choose our drinks from the soda machine. My husband was very excited about apple Fanta. He had not seen that before. There were also basic soda options as well.
Not long after we got our drinks and sat at the table, an employee delivered the food to our table. Everything was hot and fresh looking. I took a trip to the salsa bar and choose a few different ones to taste. After a couple of bites of taco, my husband commented about how impressed he was with the food. He got the steak fajitas and said it was very good steak. He didn’t expect it to taste so good considering how cheap the prices are.
We had our meal comped, but if we had paid, the whole bill would have been $33. That is an excellent price for 4 people to get combo meals with dessert.
Overall Impression of the Food at Taco Cabana
The kids, who tend to be picky, enjoyed their meals as well. We had plenty of food. In fact, we even had leftovers and brought some food home with us.
I liked my chicken fajita tacos and the queso. I don’t often get queso. I’m the only one in my family that eats it, so I don’t normally order queso for just myself. I liked that the queso was part of the combo meal and I could have an individual serving.
Finally, we had the sopapillas for dessert. My husband (from Philadelphia) was not familiar with sopapillas (sweet, fried pastry). Yum! All of us very much enjoyed the sopapillas and the dipping sauces, especially the dulce de leche.
Thanks, Taco Cabana for a fun meal. We will definitely be returning.
I wrote this Taco Cabana review while participating in a campaign for Taco Cabana and received a promotional item and/or sample to thank me for taking the time to participate.
