Update – The Best Sugar Cookies Recipe and Frosting Recipe
For my son’s birthday, his request was to make and decorate sugar cookies. Every year, we bring in birthday snacks to share with the classroom. This year, he wanted to bring homemade sugar cookies to his class.
Fair Warning
First, let me tell you, this is an easy sugar cookies and frosting recipe using items you most likely already have in your house. But, let me warn you, this is a time-consuming recipe. Although each step is fairly easy, the whole thing takes quite a while. For example, after making the dough, you need it to chill for at least 30 minutes. Then, you have to roll it out and cut out the shapes.
This can be time-consuming depending on how much the kids want to help you and the variety of shapes you want. Another thing to keep in mind is that the cookies need to be fully cooled before icing them. Otherwise, the icing will melt and become liquidy on the cookies. Lastly, the decorating of the cookies can take a while too depending on how fancy and detailed you want them. But, most of the time, it is totally worth it. Seriously, these are some of the best sugar cookies we have ever eaten! My son says they are better than the store bought ones and the kids and teacher loved them.
