Quick Tips for Search Engine Optimization
Use these tips as a quick guide as you are writing new posts or updating old articles.
SEO depends on two main parts:
- What you have/do on your site
- What sites have/do that link to you
Optimize Your Site
Here are a few things to consider when optimizing your site.
Your Site Keywords / Phrases
- URLs
- Page title
- Title tag – fewer than 70 characters
- Concise description
- Add keywords closer to the beginning. Most important first then trail off to secondary keywords or phrases
- Appears in 3 key places
- top of the browser
- search result pages
- external websites – sites linking to you
- Title tag – fewer than 70 characters
- Headings and subheadings
- Check for <h1>, <h2>, etc tags
- File names, images , descriptions on images, alt tags
- Meta description – brief description, very specific (around 160 characters)
- Call to action, tell them what to expect
- Use keyword once or twice
- Content – the words on your actual page
What’s on Other Sites
Consider these things when it comes to what the sites have or do that are linking to you.
- Number of other sites linking to you
- Quality of the other site – more popular page/good page, the better
- Look at Search engines/Directories
- Yelp, Google Local Business Center, Relevant Search Engines?
