How to Make Money Teaching Online

This post is for teachers or professionals with education experience looking for ways to make money teaching online.
This is a scary time for all of us, but especially teachers. Because of the pandemic, many teachers may be out of work or have less income.
Some teachers have chosen not to teach in person and are now out of a job.
Other teachers may be teaching this school year, but need more income to cover the added expenses of the pandemic.
If you are a teacher or a professional with some experience teaching here are some ways to bring in more money by teaching online.
How to Make Money Teaching Online
Below, you will find some options for making money instructing students of all ages. The roles include anything from tutors, field experts, assistants, special education, and more.

With a focus on out-of-school learning, Outschool offers flexibility and variety in order to engage learners around the world. Prices and course lengths vary.

How to Teach Online on Outschool
If you are interested in teaching on Outschool, then you’ll need to fill out an application that not only asks for education and experience, but also your teaching philosophy, and what you would like to teach.
You will also need to create a sample class and description as well as record a 3-5 minute video where you teach a sample of the class you described.
Once your application is approved you have to have a background check.
To give you an idea of how long it takes from the application to teaching your first class, I sent in my application on July 15, started the background check on July 20, and taught my first class on July 24.

How Much Do You Make on Outschool?
You decide the length of time and price of your classes. Outschool takes a 30% cut.
I priced my first class at $5 per kid, for 30 minutes in order to get students and reviews.
I have since taught another class at $12 per kid, for 45 minutes.
What Types of Classes Can You Teach?
You can teach just about anything that is appropriate for students ages 3 to 18. There are a few exceptions. All content needs to be secular and you cannot have classes that promote discrimination, hate speech, or violence
So far, I have only taught math classes, but I plan to create some classes with other subjects soon. You can see my classes and profile here.
As an example, a popular class that is in high demand is Project Pet Shop a Review of 2nd Grade Math. This class is 8 weeks, twice a week, and costs $150 total per student.
Private Tutoring Online
Tutoring is a flexible, rewarding, and quite profitable. I have been tutoring for more than 15 years.
Most of the time, I do not need to prepare anything ahead of time. I just show up and help my students with homework, studying for a test, or completing projects.
If you have experience tutoring in person, it is not too hard to make the transition to online tutoring. Once the pandemic started, I moved my private tutoring to Zoom sessions.
It takes a little time to get adjusted and figure out the best way to share and collaborate.
We do a lot of screen sharing and annotating.
